Brussels, 23/07/2018 -The Human Rights Defenders World Summit 2018 will take place on 29, 30 and 31 October 2018 in Paris, an event that will bring together a diverse group of 150 HRDs from around the world, for three days of meetings, panel discussions, networking and workshopping. The organisers are launching an open call to human rights defenders who whish to join the summit.

20 years after the adoption of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, this international summit aims at celebrating HRDs’ work and the progress made in the last 2 decades, raise awareness about their actual situation and the threats HRDs are facing and create a platform to build the strategies for an effective protection and a more enabling environment for human rights around the world in the next decades.

The HRDs participants, who are at the forefront of the struggles for ocial, political and environmental changes, will have the opportunity to connect, work and debate together and engage with regional and international human rights organisations, global leaders from governments, the United Nations, and the private sector.

In addition to a focus on those HRDs who are most vulnerable and at risk, the Summit will be a unique space to convene marginalised groups, including ethnic and religious minorities, diverse gender identity activists, indigenous peoples and other defenders who are geographically remote from centres of power, media and international attention.

If you are a human rights defender and if you want to be part of this international gathering and build the strategies and actions for an effective protection for HRDs and an enabling environment for human rights for all, please send your application :

If you are a human rights organisation or institution, we kindly ask you to share this call within your networks, and ask to share it as well, and so on, for the call to reach grassroots organisations and more isolated HRDs and give them the opportunity to apply.
