THE ROLE
PI is recruiting a PI country Representative for its work in Honduras. The PI Representative will be based in Tegucigalpa and work under the direct supervision of PI Regional Director for Mesoamérica.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze the political context in Honduras and its impact on the work of defenders, identifying new trends and risks affecting W/HRDs and proposing practical
- interventions geared towards increasing their security;
- Legal representation and support the process of registration of PI in Honduras.
- Monitoring and reporting (narrative and financial) on ongoing projects.
- Supervise the design and implementation of annual work plans and budgets in Honduras in line with PI Global Strategy 2019-2023.
- Actively seek funding opportunities in Honduras and develop / maintain sound working relations with partners and donors.
- Facilitate and carry out capacity building, security and needs assessments processes in partnership with defenders, communities and other local partners;
- Closely collaborate with human rights defenders and organisations on the development of training content aimed at building their capacity in security management and protection;
- Write reports including any recommendations and follow up to current interventions;
- Productively engage with relevant stakeholders, including communities, government authorities, diplomatic missions, UN bodies, local and international NGOs, ;
- Oversee sound information and security management for PI staff in Honduras;
- Contribute to the development of Honduras security plan, implement it, update it and abide by it;
- Contribute to PI Global learning and knowledge sharing across the organization;
- Coordinate with other PI Representatives globally and teams in the region;
- Coordinate and supervise the compliance of the cooperation agreement with our local partner.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant academic background (international law, political sciences, sociology, among others);
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position or as an Executive Director or programmes coordinator in a national NGO;
- Sound management experience and a proven record of accomplishment at national level;
- Extensive experience working with human rights defenders and in close collaboration with civil society actors in Honduras;
- Eligible to work in Honduras.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Commitment to PI’s mission and to the right to defend human rights;
- Sound knowledge of regional and national mechanisms for the protection of human rights defenders;
- Excellent knowledge of the Honduran context and extensive network of contacts in the local human rights movement;
- Entrepreneurship and ability to work in a fluid political environment;
- A proven ability to plan strategically;
- Alliance builder;
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others;
- Capacity to motivate colleagues and to assume leadership;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural team with respect for diversity;
- Fluency in Spanish and good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of ancestral people’s languages will be considered an asset.
- Ability to travel regionally and overseas;
- Computer literacy and interest in digital security and IT/communication tools.
THE OFFER:
One year contract renewable on successful completion of 3 month probation, governed by Honduran law.

The position is full-time and based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
