Protection International Kenya contributes to the creation of a safe and enabling environment for human rights defenders (HRDs) and civil society.

Our objective: Accompany HRDs and communities at risk in Africa so they are better able to protect themselves against risks associated with targeted discrimination, criminalisation and persecution. PI Kenya do this through proactive risk management and advocating for improved protective behaviours by public authorities and other relevant stakeholders.

Our publications in Swahili:

  • Protection International's manual
  • Manual on Protection of women human rights defenders
  • Manual on Protection measures that defenders can use in their life and their family
  • Manual on surveillance and counter surveillance.

Other initiatiaves: The team carried out a baseline survey on risks for journalists and came up with a manual and a protocol for media houses to protect their journalists. So far 5 media houses have signed the protocal, two of which are the biggest print and TV houses in Kenya.
