Yulia Sugandi

Yulia Sugandi is an independent educator and researcher whose main interest is in supporting organic social change and social-ecological justice. She has over 19 years direct working experience of development programmes through employment as Director, Coordinator, Consultant and Board member of various projects and combines this with teaching and researching social equity, inclusive development, positive peace and human ecology.

Yulia has PhD in Anthropology and Sociology from the Institute of Ethnology, University of Muenster,Germany as well as a MSc in Sociology and Intercultural Counselling Programme from the University of Eastern Finland. She is one of the founders and advisory council of Indonesian Migrant Workers Union that promotes the labour rights in the Netherlands. Yulia is a research fellow of Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences- IPB University where she co-creates Transdisciplinary framework beyond academics to solve social-ecological crisis.

She is the co-editor of the trilogy books and policy brief on Indonesia Facing Climate Change with 78 contributors from academics, legislators, corruption eradication commission, activists, business communities, youth, etc. Yulia has been leading interdisciplinary participatory action research and experiential learning sessions to support dignified social change in which ordinary people, especially vulnerable communities (ie. women and children, refugees, marginal groups, indigenous peoples, and people with disabilities) can be listened and responded to through appropriate public policies. She is a firm believer of the power of empathy and compassion that binds knowledge and wisdom.
