International Women's Day

Put Your Purple Shades on for Protection!

Protection International's (PI) mandate is to capacitate women human rights defenders (WHRDs) for their self-protection, but also to ensure that women's strength, influence and agency is better recognised around the world. In order to do this, the first step is to look at how we work and organise ourselves internally.

On International Women's Day 2022 we want to illustrate what it means, as a PI family, to carry a pair of purple glasses. To do this, we have created these two infographics about women working in PI and the need for protection plans that implement a risk-based approach to protection that addresses the needs of WHRDs.

In November 2021, we also asked some of the women human rights defenders working for Protection International (PI) about their experiences, passions and visions for a better future. Now, on the occasion of 8 March and to reflect on the crucial work of women around the world, we have translated our interviews with these leaders and women human rights defenders into French and Spanish.
