Gitahi Githuku is a human rights defender who has worked with various national and regional human rights and dignity over years. His work has involved grants making especially amongts grassroots and social movements, network & movement building and working with human rights defeders. He has engaged with human rights tools and mechanisms including universal periodic review, treaty bodies and other special mechanisms, EU working group on the situation of human rights defenders, Africa commission for Human and People's Rights, media security and regional protection mechanisms for human rights defenders. He has expertise on issuels which include: access to justice, good governance, security and protection of human rights defenders (HRDs), litigation, advocacy, protection of minorities, networking, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE) Rights, monitoring, documenting and reporting on human rights abuses and violations. Since 2014, he has been woking with American Jewish World Service base in Nairobi as their Programme Officer for Kenya. Currently, he works on natural resource rights and sexual health rights programmes. Prior to joining AJWS, he worked with Protection International from 2009-2014.
