The short film “No estamos solos” (“We are not alone”), directed by María Aizpuru, in which Protection International Mesoamerica, the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and the Association for Economic and Social Development (ADES) participated, has been nominated for the best documentary short film by the Americas Film Festival of New York (TAFFNY), which celebrates its fifth edition from June 7 to 15, 2018.

This short film, María Aizpuru brings us closer to the reality of women human rights defenders, especially in Honduras and El Salvador, where they face daily all kinds of threats, discrimination, humiliation, aggressions, and even murder. Honduran activist Berta Cáceres was murdered on 2 March 2016 due to her outspoken defending of nature, water rights, and indigenous Lenca culture.

We at Protection International congratulate María Aizpuru and our partner associations that have also collaborated in the production of the documentary. A work that has already received numerous awards. Among 22 other short films, “No estamos solas” won last April the award given by the Hispanic-American Independent Film and Video Documentary Meeting: Contra el Silencio Todas las Voces (Against the Silence, All the Voices), in the category Social Movements and Citizen Organization.
