To mark International Women’s Day, Protection International pays tribute to women around the world fighting to defend their rights and the rights of their communities to achieve a more just future.
We are proud of the women struggling peacefully to highlight and combat violence, the crimes committed during armed conflict, sexual violence, impunity and LGBTI rights. Struggling to defend their culture, their identity, their territory – they are women organised within social movements and trade unions, they are farmers, journalists, academics, etc., who face risks, discrimination and criminalisation, and in many cases, so do their families, because of their defence of human rights.
Their conviction, dignity and strength to face great obstacles makes them Women Human Rights Defenders.
We all from Protection International congratulate them for their courage, their work, their perseverance and accomplishments. It is a great honor for PI, to have supported and to continue to support some of them on their journey to achieving more just societies.
