Este último informe es una evaluación en profundidad sobre la libertad de prensa y el periodismo comunitario en Guatemala, un año después de la llegada al poder del presidente Bernardo Arévalo.
Este trabajo es fruto de una misión colectiva entre Protection International Mesoamérica y otras siete organizaciones internacionales y regionales: ARTICLE 19 México y Centroamérica, Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP), Free Press Unlimited, Freedom House, Reporteros sin Fronteras (RSF), el Comité para la Protección de los Periodistas (CPJ) y DEMOS.
Entre octubre de 2024 y enero de 2025 se entrevistó a periodistas comunitarios y medios de comunicación, en particular de proyectos mediáticos indígenas, y el análisis posterior describió los patrones de violencia, criminalización, exclusión y censura que afectan a este sector esencial.
El informe ofrece recomendaciones oportunas tanto para el Gobierno como para la comunidad internacional y la sociedad civil guatemalteca.

This latest report is an in-depth assessment on press freedom and community journalism in Guatemala, a year into the administration of president Bernardo Arévalo.
This work is fruit of a collective mission between Protection International Mesoamerica and seven other international and regional organizations – ARTICLE 19 Mexico and Central America, La Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP), Free Press Unlimited, Freedom House, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), and DEMOS.
Community journalists and media outlets, in particular from indigenous media projects, were interviewed from October 2024 to January 2025, with the subsequent analysis outlining the patterns of violence, criminalization, exclusion, and censorship affecting this essential sector.
The report delivers timely recommendations for both the Government, the international community and Guatemala civil society.
